What you will do and the value you will add We currently have an opening for a new role for an experienced bilingual mental health counselor.
As part of a multidisciplinary team, the mental health worker provides needs assessments, short-term counseling, referrals to internal or external services, crisis intervention, and advocacy for rights and interests.
This role is an integral part of a partnership developed with the Eastern Ottawa Community Family Health Team (OSCFEO) under Ontario’s Primary Care Action Plan. Key responsibilities • Provide short-term mental health counseling • Organize and facilitate support groups and workshops related to mental health and well-being •
Apply a structural, anti-oppressive, person-centered, strengths-based, and harm-reduction approach during support sessions and short-term counseling • Adopt an intersectional approach that takes into account equity and the social context of individuals • Provide information, referrals, and assistance in navigating internal and external community resources • Assist with filling out forms as needed • Work closely with the OSCFEO •
Provide outreach services through community activities and/or at targeted locations • Establish, strengthen, and maintain collaboration and partnerships with community organizations • Represent the Centre on various committees related to its responsibilities and/or needs Job Requirement • Bachelor’s degree in social work • A master’s degree in a relevant field is an asset • Be a member in good standing of the Ontario College of Social Workers and Social Service Technicians and maintain that membership • Bilingual French and English (spoken and written) • Have a minimum of three to five years of experience in mental health intervention with vulnerable or diverse client populations • Good knowledge of resources and experience in community liaison •
Demonstrated knowledge and understanding of the culture, history, and oppressions experienced by people related to race, culture, ethnicity, gender identity and expression, and other related oppressions • Good understanding of how intersecting identities shape individuals’ lives and experiences • Must be available to work evenings and occasionally on weekends Skills And Attributes for Success • Dependable and reliable • Able to work independently with sound judgment and resourcefulness • Action-oriented, self-starter • Highly collaborative • Excellent prioritization and time management skills • Demonstrates flexibility, organization and a sense of initiative • Excellent interpersonal communication skills • Ability to apply an equity, diversity and inclusion lens • Ability to identify and meet the needs of diverse communities in Orléans-Cumberland • Team player with the ability to lead in multidisciplinary environments •
