Nisa Helpline is a project of Nisa Foundation (a registered charity in Canada), that offers peer-to-peer counselling, support in creating action plans, referrals, emotional and spiritual support and encouragement to women, seven days a week.

Position Overview:  

The Peer Counselling Support Staff (PCST) is a team of individuals who provide support to both callers and Peer Counsellors (PCs) on the Nisa Helpline. The PCST team is responsible for boosting engagement and providing mutual and professional support to PCs who are actively taking calls.

Key Responsibilities:  

  • Support the Helpline Supervisor in providing feedback, coaching, debriefing and professional support to the Peer Counsellor team 
  • Be available for on call support for Front line staff on a rotating basis for a 16 hr helpline.
  • Check call reports and provide feedback or support to Peer Counsellors, as needed 
  • Participate in regular meetings with the Peer Counsellor team to upgrade skills and discuss relevant information 
    • Conduct bi-weekly 15-minute check-ins with new Peer Counsellors 
    • Provide 15-minute debrief support to Peer Counsellors who have just had a difficult call 
  • Identify training or support needs for Peer Counsellors 
  • Provide training and development support based on the needs of Peer Counsellors (PCs). 
  • Attend regular meetings with PCST representatives to provide updates on the above responsibilities 

Qualifications:  

  • Minimum 6 months experience in counselling/coaching/mentoring  
  • Demonstrated skills and competencies of a Peer Counsellor 
  • Ability to converse in a reflective manner 
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills 
  • Ability to handle sensitive and confidential information with discretion 
  • Detail-oriented and organized with the ability to multitask and meet deadlines 
  • Familiar with reporting and tracking tools 
  • Familiar working in a team dynamic
