Practicum

Our private counselling practice in High River, Alberta offers students a welcoming, hands-on learning environment where they can develop their clinical skills while working directly with clients.

Clinical Experience

Students have the opportunity to work directly with clients and develop practical counselling skills in a professional practice setting. We work with clients across a wide range of demographics and ages, beginning at age 6. While students typically work primarily with adult clients, there is an opportunity to gain experience with different presenting concerns, backgrounds, and stages of life.

Students who are interested in couples’ work may have the opportunity to work with one or two couples during their practicum. This can be a valuable opportunity to gain introductory experience with couples counselling while still maintaining a strong focus on individual client work.

Experienced Supervision

Our supervisor is a CCC and CCS with the CCPA and has more than 8 years of experience supervising counselling students from a variety of universities and programs. Supervision is focused on helping students connect their academic learning to real clinical practice while developing confidence, clinical judgment, and professional identity.

A Supportive Environment

We are a small, comfortable, and welcoming practice where students have the opportunity to ask questions, learn through experience, and receive individualized support as they develop their skills.

Meaningful In-Person Experience Students are required to be in the office at least two days per week (three days for the first semester of the practicum) for in-person sessions. While some virtual sessions may be available, the majority of the practicum experience is face-to-face. We believe there is tremendous value in developing therapeutic presence, rapport, and clinical skills through in-person work.

What You Can Expect

Our goal is for students to leave their practicum with more than completed hours. We want you to leave with greater confidence, stronger clinical skills, and a clearer sense of yourself as a professional counsellor. Our office is located in High River, and we welcome students who reside in High River as well as commute from Calgary and surrounding communities.

If you are looking for a practicum where you can learn, ask questions, gain genuine clinical experience, and grow in a supportive private-practice environment, we would love to hear from you. We accept student resumes and cover letters for practicum placements starting in January, May, and September.
