Some Other Solutions is a non-profit agency in Fort McMurray, Alberta, located in the Regional Municipality of Wood Buffalo and on Treaty No. 8 Territory, a traditional meeting ground and gathering place of the original people of this land.  Some Other Solutions empowers and supports the diverse families and individuals of our region by providing a holistic approach to accessible counselling and outreach services.

Our Health and Wellness department is responsible for providing client-focused counselling services to adults, children, couples, and family systems, on issues related to mental health, addiction, stress, trauma, etc. The services provided will focus on assessment, case planning, treatment, and referral to community resources, as necessary.  Duties and Responsibilities

  • Provide in-person and virtual individual therapeutic counselling
  • Support clients through the intake process and scheduling of sessions.
  • Complete safety plans, danger assessments and other necessary assessments to help maintain client safety and guide client-management.
  • Attend and seek supervision with placement supervisor as per university / agency guidelines.
  • Complete all necessary administrative paperwork (e.g., incident reports, case notes, client letters, monthly reports to Manager, etc.).
  • Plan and co-facilitate groups and community presentations.
  • Collaborate and communicate with health care/ service providers in the community to provide effective and holistic services to clients.

 REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

– Open to students who are enrolled in Yorkville’s Master of Arts in Counselling Psychology and entering into practicum.

– Experience in mental health settings / community support services are considered to be an asset

– Current Criminal Record Check, Vulnerable Sector Check, Child Youth Intervention Check, and professional liability insurance
