Hat, Alberta, is seeking a motivated Practicum student!

counselling services for children, adolescents, and adults. At the Birch House, we are committed to
delivering high quality, evidence-based interventions within a supportive, somatically sensitive, and

The right candidate for this position is a student who is professional, self-motivated, passionate
about creating safe and nurturing environments for others, committed to clinical excellence, and
can invest 14-20 hours per week at the clinic. As our practicum student, we offer:

  • High quality and consistent clinical supervision from a Registered Psychologist to meet
    the requirements of your Practicum
  • Flexible hours (i.e., day shifts, evenings and/or weekends)

Responsibilities:

  • A high level of professional standards and ethics is required. The individual must be able to follow ethical decision-making models and be on the lookout for ethical dilemmas that may affect their practice, their clients, and the public at large.
  • Provide psychotherapy to children who at 10 years old or older, adolescents, and adults
  • Provide assessment, establish treatment plans, and write clinical notes as needed and appropriate for your supervision plan
  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams and multicultural clients
  • Complete clinical documentation accurately and in a timely fashion
  • Utilize evidence informed treatment methods tailored to individual client needs
  • Conduct emergency response referrals and interventions, as required
  • Consult regularly with supervisors and colleagues

Qualifications:

  • Enrollment in Yorkville University’s MAC program with a minimum GPA of 3.25 and approval to proceed with a Practicum placement
  • Clear criminal record check with vulnerable sector search
  • Full COVID-19 immunizations up to date

Assets:

  • Minimum of 3 years experience in customer services or a helping profession
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
  • Flexibility in available work hours and modalities (i.e., in-person, which is required, and virtual if a client requests)
  • Familiarity with Jane Practice Management software preferred
  • Knowledge of community resources
  • Valid Alberta driver’s license and a vehicle in good operating condition
