What is the opportunity? 

 

The RBC Economics & Thought Leadership team’s mission is to inform and inspire Canadian prosperity. The team is instrumental in enhancing RBC’s reputation as a global thought leader. This is an opportunity for two exceptional research analysts to join the team!

 

1.    Research Analyst (Economics): You will play a key role in providing quantitative analysis and support to the Economics Department. This is an exciting opportunity for you to work alongside our economists in producing publications and facilitating economic analysis.

 

2.    Research Analyst (Thought Leadership):  You will play a key role in providing research support on a variety of issues that are important to Canadian business and society and help the Thought Leadership team deliver content in diverse formats, including the Disruptors podcast.

What will you do?

 

Research Analyst (Economics):

  • Support research on national and provincial economies, budgets and other economic issues ranging from demographic trends to productivity challenges facing Canada
  • Develop and build a variety of models for key economic indicators, economies, sectors and markets.
  • Contribute to forecasts and commentary to stakeholders within the firm and external clients.
  • Contribute to publications and ensure best practices are applied in producing all research in order to guarantee the consistency and quality of work that RBC demands.

 

Research Analyst (Thought Leadership):

  • Conduct quantitative and qualitative research for flagship reports on a range of priority topics, including climate change and innovation.
  • Support the development of various other thought leadership assets (i.e., newsletters, podcast, blogs, other short form pieces) with timely qualitative and quantitative research
  • Prepare ad hoc research briefs
  • Support Disruptors podcast with episode ideation and preparation, including chase producing and promotion
  • Support social media engagement, including crafting copy for posts

 

What do you need to succeed?

Must-have

  • Currently enrolled in an undergraduate or Masters program in Economics, Business, Public Policy, Journalism, or a suitable equivalent
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills and an ability to synthesize complex concepts
  • Expert research, accuracy and fact-checking skills
  • A high level of organizational skill, attention to detail and the ability to manage multiple projects to deadline and work in a close-knit team

 

Research Analyst (Economics):

  • Strong understanding of how to manipulate economic data using advanced technical and statistical methods.

 

Research Analyst (Thought Leadership):

  • Strong capabilities in Microsoft Office suite.

 

Nice-to-have

  • Knowledge of Salesforce, WordPress, Google Analytics and Haver Analytics software would be an asset.
  • Demonstrated interest in, and knowledge of economics, public policy, technology, innovation and sustainability.
