Role: Student Ambassadors- Yorkville University

Role Overview: As a Student Ambassador at Yorkville University, you will play a pivotal role in enhancing the student experience by serving as a liaison between students and various university departments. This dynamic position offers the opportunity to contribute to the university’s vibrant community, while honing your leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills. Student Ambassadors act as representatives of the university, providing valuable information and support to current and prospective students, promoting events, and fostering a positive campus environment.

Purpose:
  • To provide an exceptional student experience to current, new, and prospective Yorkville University Students while acting as a liaison between students and a variety of departments based on student’s inquiry.
  • A Student Ambassador is a representative of a university and provides valuable information to current and potential students, along with serving as a resource to promote specific tasks. These include, but are not limited to, supporting all the departments across the campus – OSRR, IT, Accommodations and Accessibility and Student Success.
    • Peer Mentorship is a core part of the Student Ambassador program and falls under the umbrella of Student Services. If selected for the Student Ambassador Program, only a few of the ambassadors would be given a chance to become a Peer Mentor.
  • As a student ambassador, you get access to being a part of a prestigious and exclusive student group which expands their leadership repertoire, develop core communication skills and get rewarded with the necessary values that help in building a strong and robust resume for future.
Education:

Currently enrolled in a On-Campus Yorkville University Degree Program.

Minimum Requirements:
  • In Good Academic Standing (A minimum CGPA of 3.2 with the expectation to maintain it moving forward)
  • Having completed at least 3 terms at Yorkville University (Should be in the 4th term or in a more senior term)
  • Prior Student Leadership role in Yorkville University is an asset (Sports/Creative Club Head, Member of a Student Council)

  • Excellent organizational skills to prioritize and work with multiple departments and events occurring within short and overlapping time periods.

  • Self-motivated learner and demonstrated commitment to personal and professional development.
  • Maintain confidentiality and exercise discretion.
  • Excellent computer skills: Microsoft Office 365 (Teams, Word, Excel, Outlook)
  • Enhanced knowledge of Dayforce is an asset
Responsibilities:
  • Serve as first contact point for students to help them navigate to their classrooms and or departments, along with setting up occasional tabling for promotions and interactions.
  • To serve as the first point of contact for students entering the university and to answer basic questions about the services available and assist students in accessing these services.
  • Student Ambassadors are also responsible for providing excellent student experience and for providing accurate information about the University, directing visitors, and giving them relevant knowledge of Yorkville University and its facilities
  • Extend academic support to students experiencing difficulties in core course concepts by working in partnership with the faculty in charge
  • Provide campus tours for new and prospective students.
  • Provide cross support for all departments when required. Examples: Support during orientation sessions (Admissions Department), Event coverage (Marketing), Student Life Events and Activities (Student Activities Coordinator), Student Spokesperson (International Open houses, Career Services seminars)
  • Suggest recommendations to improve Student experience based on firsthand feedback from students in a timely fashion.
  • Provide logistical, and at times technical IT support and create social media content sharing student life experiences frequently, includes MyPath Support for all students
  • Promote ongoing events and activities (academic and non-academic) amongst students and encourage registration and participation.
  • Function as liaisons between the school staff and current student body.
  • Maintain a log of, communicate and direct potential student inquiries to the appropriate departments in their absence.
  • Welcome Calls: Outbound touch base call to Term 1 students during the first 3 weeks to welcome, connect and direct their queries to the appropriate department.
Remuneration:

The Student Ambassador is compensated at a rate of $17.40 per hour. The Student Ambassador may work a maximum of 20 hours per week (hours are not guaranteed and number of hours per week may change subject to demand). The Student Ambassador is expected to complete monthly pay records by completing the time sheets and submitting these to Student Life Coordinator for review and approval. Pay is deposited monthly via direct deposit.

Qualifications and Conditions of Employment:
  • Must remain in Good Academic standing.
  • Not previously or currently on any misconduct status (record verified by Office of Student Rights and Responsibilities).
  • Dress Code in Effect: Yorkville University Shirts (Provided), Pants, Dress Shoes, and lanyards always.
  • 20 Minutes break will be provided during a 4-hour shift; Breaks to be taken
How are Student Ambassadors hired?
  • 2 Rounds of Interviews:
    • ROUND 1: Group Interview Session
    • ROUND 2 (ONLY IF SELECTED): Personal Interview Session
  • Interviewed and hired by the Student Activities Coordinator – Rajat Virdi
  • Proven track record in a prior student leadership role – Student Club Heads and Council Members.
  • Excellent communication skills.
  • Have served as student volunteers during a variety of events and activities in a consistent manner.
  • Respected, known & credible amongst fellow students and aligns with Yorkville University’s Core Values
  • Highly energetic, confident, and knowledgeable.
  • GPA Standing: In Good Standing (min 3.2 CGPA)
  • Minimum successful completion of three terms
  • Have not previously worked in the Student Ambassador position – One Opportunity per term per selected individual.
