About the CCT

The Ottawa Centre for Cognitive Therapy is a dynamic private clinic. The Centre was established in 1995 and has steadily grown over the past 28 years. It is currently a very busy therapy centre, providing approximately 12,000 therapy sessions to the community each year. There are currently 12 therapists (5 Psychotherapists and 7 Psychologists). All therapists receive weekly scheduled supervision and professional development consultation. The workplace atmosphere is very collegial with social
opportunities to get to know your colleagues.

A progressive professional development program

The Centre is dedicated to the professional development of all therapists. Each therapist at the CCT receives at least 2 hours of development training
per week, with Senior Psychologists who have over 30 years of experience.

A bi-annual allowance for professional development is also offered. The successful candidate will be provided with substantial support and training in CBT. Professional Development includes keeping abreast of:
(a) Traditional approaches to cognitive therapy;
(b) Developing a rich understanding of the theoretical background supporting the cognitive approach to therapy. This includes but is not limited to keeping abreast of the most relevant and cutting-edge research in applicable cognitive science and evolutionary psychology.
(c) Developing skill in the use of contemporary clinical techniques and applications including mindfulness, meta-cognitive therapy and other “third wave” approaches with an emphasis on unconditional acceptance.

Matching clients to therapists

The Centre has a high rate of referrals from the community. This provides the opportunity for the successful candidate to have their case load grow rapidly. In addition, referrals are assessed at intake by a senior psychologist and then assigned to a therapist who best matches the referral. This ensures that therapists develop a case load that best matches their interests and training. It is also beneficial to clients who are matched to the therapist best suited to client goals and to the therapist that clients are most likely to relate well to.

Competitive Pay

The yearly salary of $80,000 – $100 000 per year is based on full-time employment and seeing an average of 20 to 27 clients’ hours per week. Hours can be negotiated with the directors.

No Overhead Expenses

Each therapist is provided their own personal furnished office with extensive administrative support. The Centre employs an administrative staff highly educated and experienced in all administrative details involved in managing a private clinic. The 6 full time administrative staff are regularly complimented by clients for their helpfulness. Scheduling, appointment reminders and cancellations are managed with an extensive, customized database.

Requirements

The successful candidate must:

• Have completed a clinical MA in Psychology, or equivalent
• Have completed their clinical internships
• Be registered, or eligible for registration with the College of Psychologists of Ontario or the College of Psychotherapists of Ontario
• Have training and a key interest in CBT
• Have a commitment to further developing their therapy skills within a CBT orientation
• Have a dedication to integrating an academic orientation with clinical practice
• Enjoy working in a collegial workplace atmosphere
• Eligible to work in Canada
• English essential
• Bilingualism would be considered an asset
